This simple but delicious double-crust apple pie has everything you want in this favorite dessert and nothing more: a tender, all-butter pie crust on the bottom, filled with thinly sliced apples tossed with cinnamon, sugar, and a hit of lemon, then draped with another layer of crust and sealed with a classic crimped edge.

Ingredient:

  • 2 3/4 cup all-purpose flour, divided, plus more for dusting
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 sticks plus 1 tablespoon cold unsalted butter, cubed and divided
  • 1/2 cup ice water
  • 6 large apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 1-inch chunks or thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
